Which one would you prefer and why? I personally can't decide but knowing my like for Swedish cars ( if I could find a SAAB, no contest) well......and then again I'm very curious as too the Audi owning experience (expensive, but somehow with the right car so worth it)
I apologize for the rambling.....

Volvo all day, everyday.

As much as I love Audis in this case I would pick the Volvo, for the crossover/wagon segment IMO the XC70 looks better, has more cargo, is more comfortable, and is pretty darn quick if you can get the I6-T. I have been tempted by these myself, if the ride-height was a bit lower...I probably would get one.

I think I'm leaning pretty heavily in that direction.....plus excellent winter car too you can't really lose here
Not that TT-RS in the snow wouldn't be amazing fun ....

Try a C5 allroad and report back. From what I remember, some opponaut had a 2.7T allroad of that vintage and loved it.
It might be a slightly older car, but if you can do without the sat nav, it's probably a neat ownership proposition.
No idea how it compares to the XC70 CrossCountry, though. Does the XC70 have the same range of ride heights?

I like the ride clearance of the xc70 as it's perfect for the ice roads that Calgary streets become in winter especially if they haven't been plowed yet

If I lived in a climate that got more snow, i'd probably go for it.

I'm not sure but the xc70 is tall so I'm guessing that they are similar at the very least

That's the direction I'm leaning in....oppo is just pushing me down that path

Man, now you got me looking again. And I don't even have the monies to get a "new" car. Ohhh this one is nice for only 26k
![]() 10/06/2013 at 18:17 |
|
Ahh if only .......but for 26 k I'd probably use that as the payment on a Cinquecento Abarth
Tempting though......very tempting

Isn't that the one that had the fancy suspension that almost always failed? I heard repairing the issue was very expensive.

That is a nice looking wagon. I didn't know Volvo had wagons with contrasting color details like that one has.
I would buy that over an Audi wagon. I'm still nostalgic about Volvo wagons because of how common they were when I was a kid.

It's a "lifted" wagon so I consider it more of a crossover, but yeah they are nice. As far as a "real" wagon the new V60 should be hitting US dealers in Jan.

Just looked up the new V60. The interior looks sharp

And with 325hp in R-design trim it will be the most powerful wagon under 100k :)
![]() 10/06/2013 at 19:24 |

They need to offer the R-design model with a MT and factory installed roll cage. Then Jalopnik could sponsor a wagon-only race series :)
![]() 10/06/2013 at 19:27 |

Hey I'm just happy Volvo is bringing the wagon back...MT would be nice but I understand why it won't have it.
![]() 10/06/2013 at 19:29 |

Yeah I understand too. As long as they offer a decent AT that isn't a CVT that's good enough

It will be a 6at with flappy-paddles...not too shabby.

I would love the Volvo equipped with the Audi power and drive train. Both really nice wagons...Just have a thing for the older, squarer Volvos that are no more.

I tweeted that comment to Volvo US sometimes they will give a fun response.

Nice :) Hopefully they tweet back and tell you that they're working on an RS model with 400HP and a DCT ;)

XC70 T6 with Polestar upgrade.....but C5 Allroad over both :)
![]() 10/06/2013 at 20:55 |

Why the c5 allroad and not say the c6? You are the second person to mention the c5 specifically so I'm wondering what's up with the c5
![]() 10/06/2013 at 21:22 |

Tank status. I own a C5 Avant Quattro and it on its own is beast through any terrain. The Allroad is taller, beefier suspension, added skid plates, and added power and torque via 2 turbos. I am also an ex master certified Volvo technician and know my way around the XC70. I do believe a 2014 XC70 T6 with Polestar would be a more capable vehicle by all means. But statistics aside, C5 Allroad rules all. Newer gen allroads were just too sensitive and soft just like kids today (ages 0-25) They just dont make them like they use to.

I lol'ed cause I'm in that age bracket
I've been seeing that the allroads have better fuel economy than the xc70 if not by much and seem to be lighter and have more sportier handling, plus they are the cheaper wagon up here in Canuckland. This is one of the better examples I can find, and yet the 2006 xc70 goes for 16K +. Thanks for the input there on my choices.

Disclaimer : Only having direct experience with the XC70, (family vehicle.) take this with a grain of salt.
The volvo is better, two words... City Safety . Sure we can go back and forth about the Volvo's quiet, logical, durable luxury. Or the amazing fun of the T6 (Bank Vault that is running away from its own robbery.)
But what matters is what it did when, I f*cked up. Light goes green, the car in front started rolling, I started moving. *swedish sounding* *beep *beep. Hard. Stop. Accident avoided. I didn't think much of it until it saved my inattentive ass in traffic.
Also, seats . I did a transcontinental road-trip last December in the XC and it was sublimely comfortable. They make the 1,001 mile day not only possible but almost enjoyable.

I really like the XC70. Rented it once for a week and had it as a loaner for our S60. Nice car. Very comfortable, good looking and they drive quite well.
